Howdy!

This event will be a learning experience, an opportunity to gather as a community, and a fundraiser for Ocean Riders of Marin.

This is a horsemanship clinic focused on relationship.  It is based, in part, on my final assignment requirement to complete the EQUUSOMA program, a model for horse and human trauma recovery, as well as a synthesis of my personal learning experiences with horses and information I've gathered from various programs, clinics, trainers and equine professionals.

There are two registration options:

Horse-Human Pair (limited to 6 spots)

Suggested donation to Ocean Riders: $300

Human Auditor (unlimited)

Suggested donation to Ocean Riders: $180

When: Saturday October 17, 10:00am-4:00pm

Ready to register?  Contact me or just add your name to the Sign Up sheet in the office at the ranch.  Payments will be made directly to Ocean Riders.

Q&A

What can I expect from this experience?

This is a horsemanship clinic.  I know you all know me as a therapist but that is not the “hat” I will be wearing for this workshop.  My intention is that it will be both fun and informative and I hope to leave you with applicable concepts, methods and strategies to improve the felt sense of connection between you and your horse.  The day is structured with a combination of didactic teaching, group discussion and experiential learning (with and without horses) and its an opportunity to ”nerd out about horses” together :)  All exercises with the horses will be on the ground and there will be no riding involved.  Participation is always based on choice and readiness, and that goes for the horses too!

Will this help me address behavior issues in my horse?

I do not consider myself a horse trainer and the focus of this training is on the relationship between horse and human.  Our horses, just like us, want to feel understood and connected.  What we often refer to as "problem behaviors" in horses tend to show up as part of a broader system of conditions and dynamics and when we make adjustments in honor of a reciprocal relationship those behaviors can naturally extinguish.  You are welcome to bring specific questions and challenges that you are experiencing with your horse to this experience for us to explore together.

What if I share a horse?

That's okay!  The morning is designed for everyone to participate even if you share a horse or are not currently linked to a specific horse at the ranch.  In the afternoon the 6 horse:human pairs will work in the arena and auditors will learn by observation and ongoing group discussion.

Do I need to stay all day?

Committing to the whole experience will ensure that you get the most out of it and will be most supportive to the group process.  That said, auditors who can only attend the first half of the day are still welcome.  We will break for lunch around 12:30.  I am trying to coordinate a catered lunch for us by our neighbors at Green Gulch Farm (TBD!)

What is required with registration?

An open mind, a donation to Ocean Riders in an amount that feels comfortable to you, and willingness to fill out a feedback form after the experience to support my learning and growth.  The feedback will be anonymous.

How do I pay?

You can write a check to Ocean Riders of Marin or use the donation link on our website.

If you have a question that is not answered here please don't hesitate to reach out to me.   I hope you can attend and I am very much looking forward to this experience together!
